The Difference is in the details

Lets start with the foundation

One of the most important aspects of anything structural is the foundation.  Every AE Goal uses a larger 3/4 inch diameter anchor bolt.  The Goalrilla goal uses a much smaller 5/8 inch diameter anchor bolt.  A larger diameter anchor bolt will provide a more solid & secure foundation.

Pole Base Plate

In addition to a strong foundation, the base plate to which the pole is attached is equally important.  The thinner the base plate the more vibration and movement you will experience in the pole during gameplay.  Every AE pole is built upon a 1/2" thick laser cut steel plate.  The Goalrilla goal baseplate is slightly thinner & therefore more flexible.

Pole Thickness Matters

Simply stating the gauge of steel used is almost pointless without a visual representation.  The two pole sections shown are 7 gauge (4.5 mm thick) and 11 gauge (2.9 mm thick).  Every AE pole utilizes 7 gauge steel.  The Goalrilla CV60 has an 11 gauge pole and the CV72 comes with a 9 gauge (3.7 mm thick) pole.  The thicker the steel the less flex the pole will have during a dunk and gameplay.       *But wait... you can pay extra for a Goalrilla STBLZR (stabilizer) to make up for the thinner pole and (as stated on their website) "dramatically reduce the shake of the goal after a rebound or dunk".

Tempered Glass Backboard

Domestically sourced backboard glass is expensive and the cost has doubled over the past 3 years.  Despite the additional cost, we prefer to support domestic businesses and the families they employ.

Pivot Point Bushing Assembly

Every AE basketball goal features a unique bushing assembly that eliminates all metal to metal contact where there is movement between parts.  The bushing assemblies protect the powder coat finish and eliminate what would normally be a prime location for rust to form.

Powder Coat Finish

Our UV stable high gloss textured powder coat finish will not oxidize and turn a chalky grey like the imported hoops and will look like new for many many years.

Pole Cap

A welded steel cap eliminates the possibility of water intrusion which greatly reduces the possibility of the pole rusting from the inside out.

Rim

Constructed of a 5/8" diameter ring and a 7 gauge steel backplate, the AE pro-style flex rim is built to handle aggressive play.

Overall System Weight

Weighing in at up to 100 pounds more than the comparable Goalrilla goal, the difference in weight can be directly attributed to the thicker steel components.  Thicker steel equals more rigidity and a higher quality product.
